Karen Fullett-Christensen
was born and raised in Chicago. I’m a 1968 graduate of Mather High School, and a 1972 graduate of Northern Illinois University. She’s lived in several of Chicago’s south and west suburbs, and way out west in Missoula, Montana.
A retired urban planner, she volunteers with the Lifelong Learning Institute at Waubonsee Community College, and the co-founder of a writers’ group specifically for poets, A-Town Poetics.
She’s been writing poetry since my freshman year of high school. In January 2020, I was appointed as the first Poet Laureate for the City of Aurora and in April 2024 was named Poet Laureate Emeritus.
